News / Updates
Departure Travel Update. Updated Sept 4, 9:40am PST
We’ve now reached the deadline for collecting departure flight details. There will be no group airport transfer arranged from Santiago at the end of the trip.
👉 This means you’ll need to make your own arrangements for travel to the airport or onward destinations.
If you need assistance, our Intrepid trip leader can provide guidance on local transport options, but all transfers will be self-arranged.
Important Travel Update: Portuguese Airport Strikes. Updated Sept 3, 7:45am PST
It has been brought to our attention that a series of planned strikes will affect major airports across Portugal between September 2025 and January 2026. These strikes involve ground handling services (check-in, baggage handling, etc.) and could cause flight delays, cancellations, and general disruptions at Lisbon, Porto, Faro, Madeira, and the Azores airports.
Our Camino tour with Intrepid is still planned to go ahead as scheduled, beginning Tuesday, September 23, 2025 in Porto. Intrepid is responsible for delivering the tour itself, but we are each responsible for arranging our own flights to and from the start and end points.
Please note: our tour finishes in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. This means the strikes will primarily affect your arrival into Portugal at the start of the trip.
What you need to do:
- Check with your airline regularly for updates on your flight status.
- Be prepared for possible delays or disruptions.
- Contact your airline promptly if you need to rebook.
- Ensure your travel insurance covers delays, cancellations, and strike-related disruptions.
- Arrive earlier than usual at the airport to allow extra time for check-in and security.
At this time, we do not have additional information beyond what has been publicly shared. We will continue to monitor the situation and pass along any updates that may affect our group.
Please make sure to stay in close contact with your airline to ensure you can reach Porto in time for the start of the tour on October 23.

Following on from my earlier note about the wildfires in Spain and Portugal, I wanted to give you an update on what I’ve found so far in relation to our Camino Portugués itinerary (Porto to Santiago, September 23–October 1, 2025).
* The major wildfires are concentrated inland in eastern Galicia and Castile and León, well away from the Portuguese coastal route we’ll be walking.
* Our itinerary takes us through towns such as Oia, Baiona, Vigo, Pontevedra, Caldas de Rei, Padrón, and into Santiago de Compostela. None of these areas are currently affected.
* The closest fires are roughly 70–120 km away from our path, so while they are significant, they are not in the region we will be travelling through.
Everything for our tour remains on schedule, and there is no change to our plans. I’ve also reached out to Intrepid for their official guidance and will share their response as soon as I have it.
This update is simply to reassure you that we are monitoring the situation closely and staying ahead of the news.
Kind regards,
Erika
Wildfires in Spain: Update Aug 19, 10:20am PST
You may have seen reports about wildfires in parts of Spain. At this stage, we are not aware of any impact to our Camino Portugués route from Porto to Santiago (September 23–October 1, 2025), and our plans remain on track.
I want you to know that we are aware of the situation, we’re tracking the news closely, and I’ve already reached out to Intrepid for clarification. I’ve asked them to confirm whether any sections of our route could be affected, what the current on-the-ground situation is, and what guidance they can provide for our group.
Either way, we still have time on our side — our tour does not start until September 23, more than a month away. This note is simply to reassure you that we are staying ahead of developments and will keep you informed.
If any updates come through, I’ll share them right away.
